We Couldn’t Decide What HVAC Blog to Write This Week
We were sitting here watching yet another Texas storm roll in, wondering what to bless your eyes with in this week’s blog.
But much like Texas weather, we couldn’t make our mind up.
So naturally, we did the only rational thing we could think of.
We gave up on choosing one and decided to do them all.
This is gonna be so good for our keywords so STRAP IN!
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Not to immediately point out the obvious, but check your thermostat settings. Which is, in fact, exactly what immediately pointing out the obvious is and feels wildly unhelpful SO, if that doesn’t fix it, let’s move to plan B: check these.
dirty air filters
frozen evaporator coils
refrigerant issues
blocked vents
If all of that looks fine and your home still feels like a sauna, call someone with the tools and the certifications.
Why is my downstairs hotter than upstairs?
WE DON’T MEAN IT LIKE THAT.
Anyway, heat rises. So it could be that.
But it could also be…
poor insulation
ductwork hiccups
incorrect system sizing
airflow imbalances
Very fixable.
But yes, very annoying.
How often should I change my air filter?
This is our favorite question so it’s in almost every blog we write.
It’s every 1 to 3 months.
If you have pets, children, allergies, monthly is your safest bet.
If you can’t remember the last time you changed it, it’s probably overdue.
Why is my AC making weird noises?
Buzzing? Clicking? Rattling?
Not ideal.
Could be loose parts, electrical issues, debris buildup or worn out components.
If it sounds expensive, it could become expensive.
And what’s even more expensive is pretending you didn’t hear it.
We fully support denial in many areas of life. We’d be hypocrites if we said otherwise.
But this is not one of them.
Should I repair or replace my AC unit?
We’ll answer your question with a few questions of our own:
Is it 10 to 15 years old?
Does it break constantly?
Are repairs getting expensive?
Does it properly cool your home? Your entire home?
If you answered yes to most of these, we’re about to have a reallyyyy awkward conversation with y’all.
And by we, we mean our techs.
We’re just over here writing a 21st Century masterpiece. Staying in our lane!
And our lane prefers to stay out of conflict.
How often should I schedule HVAC maintenance?
Twice a year: once before summer and once before winter.
It’s a bit like drinking water or booking a DMV appointment in that the thought of doing it is always worse than actually doing it. So get up, Buttercup!
Why is my AC leaking water?
Once again answering your question with ours…
Do you have a clogged drain line?
Frozen coils, perhaps?!
Maybe a damaged drain pan??
Water shouldn’t be pooling around your unit.
That’s our official professional opinion.
And that’s it.
You now know more about HVAC than the average DIYer.
Go you!!
