It’s Getting Hot In Here…

It's Getting Hot in Here So Take...

Just a second.

We get it. You're obviously referring to how hot your house is.

So let's backtrack for a sec.

Your AC’s ain’t working, Texas is hotter than a jalapeño's armpit right meow, and your thermostat’s completely lost the plot.

Removing layers is fun and all, but not the end-all solution.

Fixing the actual problem is,

So here's what might be going on.

First Things First: Check Your Thermostat

Sorry to point out the obvious, but make sure:

  • It's set to Cool

  • The thermostat temp is lower than your room temperature

  • Nobody switched it to Heat during a moment of passive aggression

  • The batteries aren't “unlive” (not trying to get flagged by Google)

You'd be surprised how many service calls end right here.

If It's Still No Bueno, Check Your Air Filter

The humble air filter.

A $20 part capable of causing hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars' worth of headaches when ignored long enough. But we need ‘em.

A clogged filter restricts airflow, overworks your system, and can lead to frozen evaporator coils.

If you can't remember the last time you changed it, that's probably your answer.

Give Your Outdoor Unit Some Space

Your condenser needs room to breathe.

If it's surrounded by weeds, leaves, branches, your airflow will take the heat.

Turn the power off, then sweep, blow, push, swish and sashaaay that debris away.

Is It Actually Broken?

Could be, if any of the following are true:

  • Warm air coming from the vents

  • Weak airflow

  • Strange noises

  • Strange smells

  • Disgusting energy bills

  • The sudden urge to stick your whole face in a freezer

A Quick Word About Texas

When it's 105° outside, your AC has to work a little harder to make y’all happier.

Even healthy systems struggle.

If it's scorching outside and your home is sitting a few degrees above your ideal setting, that doesn't mean system failure. Not necessarily.

If it's 80° inside and climbing, that's a different convo.

Don't Wait

"I'll deal with it later." Quite possibly the most expensive and annoying phrase in homeownership.

Small HVAC issues have a habit of becoming large HVAC issues.

If something doesn't look right, sound right, or feel right, get it checked sooner rather than later.
