Is Your AC Delulu?
As millennials in 2026, we’re doing our absolute best to communicate with the youths in their native tongue. Frankly, this all sounds like keyboard smash gibberish to us, but if it gets you to finally change your air filter, then slaaay, we guess.
We were raised on Facebook albums and side parts. You were raised on TikTok and Stanley water bottles. We are not the same, but we’re trying.
Red Flag #1: Your AC’s Blowing Warm Air
Totes not passing the vibe check.
Or as HVAC pros call it: “an expense.”
If your AC is blowing room-temperature air during a Texas summer, there’s a reason for it. Low refrigerant, dirty filters, frozen evaporator coils, thermostat issues, compressor problems… the whole squad is susss.
For our Gen Z friends: your AC is cooked.
Peep the thermostat real quick. Deadazz (spelled incorrectly so the Google overlords don’t demonetize us), half the time somebody accidentally flipped it to heat.
No cap.
Also, if your airflow feels weak, your filter’s probs fighting for its life rn fr (millennials, that means “right now for real”).
Red Flag #2: One Room’s Hot AF
If temps around your house are all over the place, you could be dealing with poor airflow, leaky ductwork, dirty vents, insulation problems, or a system struggle bussing to keep up with the Texas heat.
“OMG it’s giving haunted,” we hear you shriek.
…yeah, that’s not it, bestie.
It’s giving airflow imbalance.
Same same but different.
This happens a lot in older homes or multi-story houses where airflow gets a little chaotic. Which is also how we’d describe trying to understand what “rizz” means.
We still don’t fully understand what “rizz” means and at this point we’re too afraid to ask.
Red Flag #3: Your AC’s Making Weird Noises
…Yeah, that’s not it, bestie.
Banging noises can point to loose or broken parts. Squealing usually means motor or belt issues. Buzzing could be electrical. Clicking may be thermostat or relay related.
The important thing here is: your HVAC system’s being mad weird rn.
Respectfully.
Red Flag #4: Your Energy Bill’s Actually Wildin’
If your electric bill jumped, your HVAC system may be overworking bc of poor maintenance, dirty filters, refrigerant leaks, aging components, or thermostat problems.
Bro, it's like the mechanical version of burnout culture.
As the internet children say: “your unit is down bad.”
Higher energy bills mean your system is working harder than it should to maintain temperature.
Emotional damage.
For your wallet.
Probably.

And while we may never fully understand phrases like:
“it’s giving”
“core”
“coded”
“standing on business”
…we do understand heating & cooling systems.
And we’re here to help.
Also, we spent an alarming amount of time researching Gen Z slang for this blog and honestly still have no idea if we used any of it correctly.
But we hope this ate and left no crumbs.
