A Month in the Life of Someone Who Keeps Paying Too Much for HVAC
Ah, so you saw the guy in the cover photo?
We know. He’s hot.
I mean… he’s literally sweating.
Let’s call him Kevin.
Kevin is a normal, functioning adult. Pays taxes. Prefers oat milk. Leaves one sock in the dryer.
Kevin is also getting fleeced by his HVAC system.
Here’s how Kev’s month goes.
Week 1: The Bill
Kevin opens his energy bill.
Pauses.
Did he read it wrong?
Was it his self-diagnosed dyslexia?
He opens it again.
Same number.
He does absolutely nothing about it.
Week 2: The AC
The AC ain’t A.C.’ing.
The house feels… off.
Not hot. Not cold.
One room’s Alaska.
One room’s Florida.
Kevin busts out his Samsung Galaxy S7. We didn’t need to say Samsung, but it helps paint a picture of Kevin.
He Googles “is my AC broken,” but gets distracted by a retargeting ad about the Note 7.
Oh, Kevin.
No action taken.
Week 3: The Thermostat
Kevin adjusts the thermostat.
Waits.
Adjusts it again.
Waits again.
Nothing happens.
Still no maintenance check.
Still no service call.
Week 4: The System
It’s 94 degrees in Texas.
Kevin’s AC stops.
Kevin panics.
He opens every window.
But that makes it worse.
KEVIN. MAKES. THE. CALL.
A tech arrives.
He takes one look.
And with the confidence of a man who’s seen this exact situation 400 times over, looks Kevin dead in his hot, handsome face and murmurs: “This could’ve been avoided.”
Exactly what Kevin wanted to hear.
The Aftermath
Kevin waited. The problem got worse. Kevin paid more.
Was it preventable? Probably.
Fix your face. No one’s telling you to panic-buy a whole new unit.
Just saying a quick AC tune-up or HVAC inspection is a really good idea, and for a few reasons:
1. It can improve your HVAC’s airflow
B. It could lower your energy usage
iii. Might also extend the life of your system
Trust the pros on this one.
You can either pay a little now or a lot later.
