“I Tried a TikTok HVAC Hack and Now My House Smells Like Burning Plastic!”
A totally factual, absolutely true, 100% not-at-all made-up email from a real human person we promise exists.
Dear Heritage Air Services,
I thought I’d share my recent “adventure” in HVAC maintenance, which I now fondly refer to as:
The Day I Learned TikTok Is Not a Licensed Air Conditioning Contractor (Or Even a Responsible Adult).
It all started with a 30-second video called “HVAC Hack That’ll Blow Your Mind.” In hindsight, the fact that the guy was filming in a dimly-lit garage, wearing neon yellow swim goggles, and narrating in an Australian accent he clearly wasn’t born with… should’ve been my first red flag.
The “Hack” Seemed Simple:
Unplug your AC unit.
Spray it down with a “special cleaning solution” and “a splash of something flammable to cut through grime.”
Plug it back in.
What could go wrong? Right?
The Aftermath
About 0.4 seconds after plugging my system back in, my house smelled like burnt Tupperware. And EVERYONE who went through a pyromaniac phase KNOWS what that smells like. It’s burned into our brains. (Pun aggressively intended).
The thermostat started flashing “ERROR” in what I can only assume was Morse code for “CALL HERITAGE AIR SERVICES.”
What I Learned
Heritage Air Services technicians do not recommend adding lighter fluid to your AC coil cleaning process.
A $79 seasonal HVAC inspection costs less than replacing your entire AC system after a TikTok experiment goes sideways, as they so often do.
Just because someone says they’re an “HVAC influencer” doesn’t mean they’re qualified. (Or sober).
The Serious Part
Look, we get it… replacing your HVAC system is expensive. That’s why we recommend professional HVAC maintenance, air conditioning inspections, and heater tune-ups before a small problem turns into a BIG one.
So, before you trust a stranger on the internet with your AC repair, duct cleaning, or HVAC installation, trust the pros who have been keeping homes in tip-top shape for yeeeaaars.
Final Words of Wisdom
If you ever see an HVAC hack that involves:
Fire
Mystery liquids
The words “No tools needed”
RUN. FOR. THE. HILLS. Or call us at Heritage Air Services first.
